Abstract: This article approaches the issue of sustainable development of organizations in terms of human resources. If in the beginning, the sustainable development was a concern only of national governments, it gradually spread to the level of organizations, their managers realizing the importance of the problem for future generations. Thus, we aimed to elucidate the theoretical-conceptual framework of sustainable development, being presented several opinions. As well, there are presented several European Union directives developed to ensure the sustainable development of society in general, but also more approved national strategies that are related to the issue approached in this paper. The author emphasizes the impact of human resources on the sustainable development of organizations, while emphasizing the need for awareness and sensitization of the issue by senior managers of organizations. The author concludes that in order to meet the current needs of organizations, as well as those of the future, senior managers will have to develop a policy of protection and development of the human capital.
