DECARBONISATION OF ECONOMY IN ROMANIA

Annals - Economy Series, 2021, vol. 5, 98-104
Abstract:
This article examines the need to produce and consume in a different way than we have done so far, to change technologies, and thus new jobs in order to achieve long-term decarbonization goals. Also, the study analyses the need for a change in the energy sector in Romania, by phasing out coal / lignite power plants. The study contains an overview of coal / lignite thermal power plants in Romania, as well as an analysis of the impact of climate change on power systems, as well as on the national economy. The financial support provided to our country through the European Ecological Pact is an opportunity for the progressive elimination of coal / lignite without a major impact on prices. The article contains a mixed methodological approach, based on both international statistical data and uses descriptive and comparative analyzes. The results of the research show that the relatively high prices set on the market did not lead to the encouragement of new investments, and the way in which settlement and the lack of a possibility of centralized compensation are required, led to incompatibilities with the principles of a competitive market.
