Abstract: The article analyzes the link between public policies and sustainable development, highlighting the fundamental role of governance in balancing the three dimensions of development: economic, social and environmental. Starting from the theoretical foundations of the Brundtland Report (1987) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we analyzed how public administration acts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). An analytical and comparative approach is applied to highlight the progress and challenges in implementing the principles of sustainability. The analysis highlights the fact that institutional performance, transparency and digital innovation have an important role in achieving effective implementation, while corruption, and discrepancies between sectoral approaches can undermine the implementation of sustainability objectives. According to the theoretical and empirical analyses included in the paper, public policies can function as key instruments of the transition to sustainable societies.
