Abstract: This article analyzes the understanding of Georgi St. Rakovski on the economic situation and opportunities for economic development of the Bulgarians on the basis of his preserved documentary heritage. His opinion about the geographical location, the demographic potential and the social status of the Bulgarians is shown. His attitude towards the ruling Ottoman government, neighboring states and Great powers is revealed in connection with the economic progress of the Bulgarians.
