Abstract: The article discusses the credit activity of the commercial-banker (sarafs) companies and bankers' houses in Svishtov, which were the holders of the unorganized credit in the period 1878-1912. Their principles of action, which shape their institutional characteristics, are outlined. Conclusions were made on the role and importance of this type of credit for the development of urban economy.
