Abstract: In this report, based on existing estimates in the historical science of the economic and financial crisis of 1897–1902, an attempt is made to trace its impact on Svishtov's economic development. At the same time, the influence of other factors, which operate during these years, which have a strong negative impact on the state of the various sectors of the urban economy, is also monitored. The dangers to the future development facing local businesspeople are also revealed, and the question of how aware they are and how they respond to the challenges is sought.
