Abstract: The Romanian integration into the EU involves the fast adoption of some strong rehabilitation programs of the transport sector. This is due to the necessity of having good and proper connections between the transport networks of hte member states. In this respect, Romania has attempted some progress, regargind the modernization and restructuration of Romanian transportation network, but the process speed remains low and sometimes the sector policies are going in the wrong way. For exemple, the Romanian transport infrastructures are is not in a very good condition. Although, the maritime and aerial infrastructures are in a better condition, this is not the case for the road and reail ones. In fact, of the roads total, only 32% are modernized and 35% of the rail infrastructure is electrified. This situation can't go any further, so it is absolutely necessary to take several actions to change it. The priorities of the sector policy must include not only the EU demands but also the Romanian necessities. For Romania, the EU adoption process means not only to modify the economic policies but also a good opportunity to modernize and develop the transport networks. This process represents the very first condition to become a member of the EU. This paper is a synthesis of the study: Modernization of integration in EU - part of the research programme 2002-2005 "Service sector - support of regional development in the context of Romanian integration in European Union".
