Abstract: Information Society (IS) represents a new concept meant to create an adequate framework for World Development Programs of the future society, defining a new type of societal organization, focused on human being. Expressing the need for expanped communication, in EU countries, the IS has been developed only after the achievement of three main preconditions: telephone line in every dwelling, adoption of the acquis, complete liberalisation of communication. At present time, Romania has adopted more than 100 normative acts regarding IS and the most important imediate next action is applying and creating a proper institutional framework. This paper is a systesis of the research work include in the 2002-2005 program "SME's contribution to Information Society in Romania".
