Abstract: The paper presents the analysis of the Romanian steel sector. The aim is to emphasize the steel industry perspectives, now, when the Romanian integration within EU is near. Steel industry keeps on being a strategic sector of any industrialized country. Romania's integration within EU means a major challenge for the national steel industry. Although, at present time, most part of Romanian steel enterprises are private-owned, the role of the state in future evolution of this sector is not negligible.
