Abstract: This paper emphasizes the strengths, the weaknesses, the opportunities and the threations of the banking system in Romania, as well as main trends in developing the banking system in our country, taking into account the challenges Romania will face on short, medium and long term. Meanwhile, a proper attention is paid to foreign banks presence in Central and Eastern Europe, al well as in Romania.
