Abstract: This paper presents the findings of the first part of a research, which approaches the social representations of risks. We are interested in how these representations appear on three levels of the reality: daily reality, media reality and political reality. We aim to find out which is the "portfolio of risks" specific for the Romanian society at this moment. In this part of the research we investigate the sense and the way in which the concept of "risk" appears in the day-to-day life. In other words, we try through this exploratory approach to find out the social representations of risks on this level, or in which particular ways the population perceives and represents the risks.
