Abstract: This paper emphasizes the strengths, the weaknesses, the opportunities and the threats of the Romanian banking system, as well as the main trends in the banking system's development in our country, considering the challenges that Romania will have to face on short, medium and long term. At the same time a special attention is paid to the presence of the foreign banks in Central and Eastern Europe and in Romania as well.
