Abstract: Chile’s rate of accidents in the workplace has declined in recent times, especially since 2012. This work makes a descriptive analysis of work accident propensity in Chile for the period 2012-2016. Using data from the National Occupational Health and Safety Information System (Sisesat) and the Unemployment Insurance, accident rates are constructed according to gender, age, type of contract, employer size, economic sector and severity of the accident. Chilean results are compared with those of other economies for each reviewed area and it is concluded by singling out priority groups for policies on safety and health at the workplace: male workers, the 18-to-24 age group, those with temporary contracts, and those working in metal manufacturing, transportation, storage and communications, non-metallic manufacturing, hotels and restaurants, construction, agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry, and fishery.
