Abstract:
The aim of the present paper is to analyse to what extent the specific juridical and economic nature of the credit sections within the co-operatives conditions their banking activity. Even if they are not considered as credit entities, these sections keep, pay and give credit to their members. However, the actual restriction to the development of the credit activity and the particular characteristics of the banking business have a direct effect on the development of these sections. All these determining factors imply the need to pay special attention to the control of the co-operatives, to the same extent that it is done with the banking business, to guarantee their liquidity and solvency as a way to guarantee their liability. The lack of control and the activity of some co-operatives with credit sections out of their subjective and objective fields has caused many problems in a great number of Valencian cooperatives.
