Abstract:
This paper addresses the recent European Social Fund (ESF) reform and the possible consequences for Social Economy. The reform was adopted in 1999 and applies to the period from 2000 to 2006. After a brief overview of the European Social Fund since it was created in 1957, the main features to the comprehensive reform of the Structural Funds are examined. The following chapter puts forward a detailed study of the 1994-1999 programming period, in order to establish both the theoretic and the real relation between the ESF reform. To conclude, some suggestions are made to member states and Social Economy organisations regarding the implementation of the provisions adopted throughout Europe through specific on site actions.
