Abstract:
The present paper reconstructs the main stages of development of a new form of cooperative society that has become established in Italy over the last 20 years. A general view of the evolution of this phenomenon, which has spread over the whole country in a relatively short time, is followed by an analysis of some key issues: the content of the regulation that recognised its existence, its relationship with the conventional cooperative movement and the non-profit sector organizations, forms of representation and communication, and the competitive edge elements that characterise social cooperative societies.
