Abstract: The participation in agricultural co-operative societies has been a theme of permanent interest, in the tasks developed in the co-operative world, due to the existence of the democratic principal in the management which defines this movement. Nevertheless, democratic participation is currently under question as a rule of functioning in co-operativism. In this work, the author gives her perspective on participation. Furthermore, a relation is given of the elements which must be present in order to guarantee an efficient participation. The article concludes with an empirical study in which shareholders give their opion on participation
