Abstract: The aim of this work is to explore the patterns of corporate governance in agricultural co-operative firms, where the suppliers are also the company owners. We raise the question of how they control management and what are the factors which limit managers’ actions to achieve the objectives of the social base; the characteristics of the manager in these organisations; and the implications of management control in the strategic orientation of these firms, bearing in mind any peculiarities resulting from their nature as participative firms. To achieve this objective, we carried out a case analysis with first- and second-degree co-operative oil presses.
