Abstract:

Consider the causes and consequences of (1) the strong Canadian media bias against the Agreement; (2) the apparent lack of interest of most Canadian economists in actively supporting the Agreement, as contrasted with the active opposition from many political scientists; and (3) the discrepancy between the econometric measurements, showing the usual small gains, and the assessment of both the active supporters (including the author) and the opponents that the decision was the most important to face the country in this century.
