The Effect of New Price Information on Crop Supply

J. Stephen Clark, Julia S. Taylor and John Spriggs

Canadian Journal of Economics, 1992, vol. 25, issue 1, 172-83

Abstract: Beginning in 1971, initial payments for Canadian Wheat Board grains were announced prior to planting. The intention was to influence producer expectations and, hence, crop supply. Using a novel estimation procedure designed to conserve degrees of freedom, it is concluded that the new information did tend to reduce output variability.
