Abstract: On producing this theme we have relied upon the fantastic theories present in Roger Caillois` work `In the heart of the fantastic ` and in Tzvetan Todorov `s volume `An introduction to the fantastic literature`. Our text aims at interpreting the literary `signs` that are employed in a permanent correlation on the syntagmatic axe and create a field of the imaginary marked by the cathegories of the strange and the fantastic on the paradigmatic axe, present within the novel `The fall into the world` by the well known contemporary writer Constantin Toiu.
