Abstract: In the present paper we will try to present the relationship between the emerging economies and the concept of sustainable development. Emerging economies are considered very important in the context of globalization and some economists believe that there are at least five emerging economies that might change the world in the future. These economies are confronted with considerable problems since they have to compete with developed economies, so they need a sustainable development in order to do that. Sustainable development refers to meeting the needs of the present generation without jeopardizing the future generations, stressing the importance of creating a better quality of life for everyone, now and for generations to come. In our opinion, emerging economies do need a sustainable development in order to have competitive economies and to obtain remarkable success in the future.
