Análisis integrado de la pobreza en Santander, Colombia, 2004-2010

Abstract: Resumen En este trabajo se aborda el fenómeno de la pobreza en el departamento de Santander (Colombia) entre los anos 2004 y 2010. A partir de un enfoque integrado de la pobreza y el uso de datos de la Encuesta SISBÉN 2010, se estiman tres indicadores de uso común para los 87 municipios de Santander: Línea de Pobreza (LP), Índice de Necesidades Básicas Insatisfechas (NBI) e Índice de Pobreza integrada (o Método Kaztman). Los resultados muestran que Santander se enfrenta a grandes desafíos en sus esfuerzos contra la pobreza. De hecho, se observan niveles preocupantes de pobreza en los municipios que están más distantes de la ciudad capital y una disparidad notable entre las zonas rurales y urbanas. ********** Abstract This paper address the phenomenon of poverty in the department of Santander (Colombia) between 2004 and 2010. Based on an integrated poverty approach and using data from SISBEN survey 2010, we estimate three commonly-used poverty indicators for all 87 municipalities of Santander: Poverty Line (PL), Index of Unsatisfied Basic Needs (UBN) and Integrated Poverty Measure (or Kaztman Method). The results show that Santander faces big challenges in their efforts against poverty. Indeed, we observe concerning levels of poverty in the municipalities which are more distant to the capital city and a notorious disparity between rural and urban areas of municipalities.
