Abstract:
Background: approximately 32% of premature newborns present respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), which is the very first cause of death in these patients. RDS control involves a great amount of resources, and it is related with high mortality and sequels in the neonatal period. Colombia doesn’t count with cost records for this disease. This study presents an approximation of medical costs related to RDS treatment. Objective: estimate direct medical costs from RDS hospital care for premature newborn in Colombia
