Abstract:
In this paper, we put forward a neglected aspect of Schumpeter's political thought: the cognitive dimension. This one fOWlds both the criticism of the democratic ideal and the construction of an alternative theory of democracy. Insisting on a wider concept of rationality and on the importance of the subjective dimension of individual representations, Schumpeter is led to extend the motives of the decisions and behaviours of the political agents and to reconsider the conditions Wlder which public choices can be made. Nevertheless, if these new assumptions offer interesting perspectives, the political theory of Schumpeter remains uncompleted.
