Japanese Multinational Enterprise before 1914

Mira Wilkins

Business History Review, 1986, vol. 60, issue 2, 199-231

Abstract: The current scholarly interest in contemporary Japanese businesses has somewhat obscured their equally fascinating early historical development. In this article, Professor Wilkins emphasizes both the extent and the variety of Japanese multinational enterprise before the First World War, and offers a basis for comparing its differences and similarities with the conventional American model.
