Chapter I. Industrial Production

Anonymous

National Institute Economic Review, 1981, vol. 97, 7-18

Abstract: Industrial production, and within it manufacturing output, continued to fall in the first two quarters of 1981; output in the second quarter was about 2 per cent below the 1980 fourth quarter level (Statistical Appendix table 2). This is a substantial slowing in the rate of fall: from the second quarter of 1979 to the fourth of 1980 manufacturing output was falling at a rate of about 3 per cent a quarter and the total at a rate of 2½ per cent.
