Sustainable human development: alternatives in education and culture for comprehensive progress

Abstract: This analysis examines Sustainable Human Development (SHD) and its connection with education and culture as transformative elements of social progress. The text explores how the integration of economic, social, environmental and institutional indicators contributes to measuring progress towards a more inclusive and equitable development. The perspective of Amartya Sen stands out, who emphasizes that development must focus on the expansion of individual freedoms beyond mere economic growth. Through the study of successful cases in Finland, Mexico and Rwanda, it is demonstrated how the effective implementation of educational and cultural policies can drive sustainable development. However, significant challenges persist, such as gender inequality and economic barriers, which particularly affect developing countries. The analysis concludes by highlighting the need to rethink educational and cultural policies from a more inclusive and diverse perspective to achieve truly sustainable human development
