Adoption of open data repositories in scientific journals: editorial and authorial implications

Abstract:
This article examines the key role of open data repositories in scientific research, highlighting their benefits for transparency, reproducibility, and interdisciplinary collaboration. It argues that their adoption by scientific journals strengthens research integrity by enabling verification of findings, reducing bias, and facilitating data reuse. It highlights platforms such as Zenodo, Dryad, Harvard Dataverse, and GHDx, valued for their accessibility, standardization, and ability to assign DOIs. It also highlights challenges such as the reluctance of some researchers to share their data and the need for clear editorial policies. In conclusion, journals are urged to actively integrate these repositories to align with the principles of open science and improve the quality of scientific knowledge..
