Abstract:
Context: Adolescence is a unique and formative stage, characterized by physical, emotional, and social changes that can expose young people to various mental health problems, such as depression. Objective: To analyze how family support influences a 17-year-old adolescent diagnosed with depression and residing in the sector of La Cruz, Rocafuerte, Manabí, Ecuador, identifying the main emotional and relational obstacles present in her environment. The methodology used was qualitative, designed as a case study, in which participant observation techniques were applied along with semi-structured interviews directed both at the adolescent and the members of her family, allowing for detailed information about the dysfunctional dynamics within the family nucleus. Results: Negative interaction patterns were highlighted, including the rigid and distant relationship with the father, the overburdened role of the sister, and the emotional dependence of the mother, all of which directly affect the adolescent's recovery process. Conclusion: The proposed intervention includes psychoeducational strategies, parent awareness-raising, and joint activities aimed at strengthening family communication. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of adapting these strategies to the cultural and emotional needs of each family context, ensuring a comprehensive and sustainable approach that facilitates not only the adolescent's recovery but also the improvement of family dynamics as a whole.
