Abstract:
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections and is closely linked to cervical cancer, a leading cause of death in women. This study aimed to determine the association between knowledge levels and preventive practices regarding HPV among undergraduate students in the Health Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities departments at a public university in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. This quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive study included 226 university students. Data was collected using two questionnaires: one on knowledge levels about HPV and another on the level of implementation of preventive practices. Most students had a low level of knowledge about HPV (64.1%) and a medium level of preventive practices (63.7%). No significant association was found between knowledge levels and preventive practices, although a non-conclusive positive trend was observed.
