Abstract:
Choosing a professional career is a decisive moment in the personal and social development of students entering the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). However, many young people have insufficient or fragmented vocational guidance experiences, leading to indecision, frequent changes in study plans, and even university dropout. In response to this issue, this qualitative action research implemented a vocational guidance strategy within the Institutional and Academic Orientation course, aimed at strengthening self-knowledge, reflection, and responsible decision-making for career choice. Based on Kemmis’s spiraled model, the intervention incorporated innovative technologies, participatory activities, and personalized support, continuously adapting to students’ needs. Results show that this strategy fosters self-determination, self-esteem, and a better connection between academic training and labor market demands. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of consolidating institutional policies to ensure the sustainability and relevance of vocational guidance in the university. In conclusion, the research demonstrates that comprehensive and contextualized vocational guidance is essential for students’ academic and professional success, promoting their holistic development and improving the quality of higher education
