Abstract:
The objective of this study was to analyze compliance with biosafety standards among nursing staff in the emergency department of the Pilar Regional Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, from 2020 to 2023. A quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental, cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 20 nursing professionals selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using a structured questionnaire administered virtually and anonymously, and analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, including absolute frequencies and percentages. The results showed mostly adequate compliance with biosafety standards, especially in the application of care protocols and the use of basic personal protective equipment, such as masks and gloves; however, limitations were identified related to the continuous availability of personal protective equipment, specific training, and the systematic management of hospital waste. It is concluded that, although the level of compliance was high, it was conditioned by structural and organizational factors, highlighting the need to strengthen institutional support and ongoing training to guarantee sustainable biosafety practices in emergency services.
