Level of knowledge about handwashing for disease prevention among sixth and seventh grade students at CADE, Santo Domingo

Abstract: Handwashing is a fundamental practice for preventing infectious diseases, especially among school-age children. This research aims to assess the level of knowledge about handwashing among sixth- and seventh-grade students at CADE, Santo Domingo, in 2024. A quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The population consisted of students from the Unidad Educativa Adventista del Ecuador (UEPA CADE), from which a representative sample of 55 students was selected through simple random sampling. A structured questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument. The results showed that although most students recognize the importance of handwashing, there are deficiencies in the proper technique and recommended frequency. It is concluded that educational strategies need to be reinforced to improve knowledge and practice of handwashing among this population to reduce the risk of diseases.
