Incidence of intrauterine growth restriction on the Isle of Youth

Abstract: Introduction: Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a major global concern, and the problem is more prevalent in developing countries. Cuba is one such country, but thanks to its maternal and child health program, the incidence of IUGR is similar to that in developed countries. Methods: An observational, descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted in the Special Municipality of Isla de la Juventud with all IUGR newborns from the year 2022, with the aim of characterizing the incidence of Intrauterine Growth Restriction on Isla de la Juventud. The sample consisted of 63 newborns with IUGR out of a total of 735 live births. Results: More than 50% of IUGR newborns were born to hypertensive pregnant women; 42.9% of the total were born to mothers between 14 and 26 years of age; and the gestational age with the highest incidence was 39–40 weeks.
