Influence of the mode of production and dominant paradigms in the field of research

Adrián Norberto de Paúl

SAP Primary Care, 2026

Abstract: This essay analyzes the influence of the capitalist mode of production and dominant paradigms on scientific research, particularly in the health field. It explores the tension between idealism and materialism, emphasizing how social and economic needs shape research agendas. The predominance of biologicist approaches over social determinants of health is critically examined, raising ethical questions about the ownership of knowledge and its role in promoting collective well-being rather than serving market interests. Additionally, it contributes a Latin American perspective, highlighting collective health and critical epidemiology as alternatives to biomedical hegemony.
