Risk of diabetes mellitus in residents living in a vulnerable area of North Lima

Abstract: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is currently one of the most prevalent diseases, and the risk of developing it is increasing. Therefore, the objective of this research is to determine the risk of diabetes mellitus in residents of a vulnerable area of northern Lima. This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study with a total population of 140 who responded to a questionnaire on sociodemographic data and the diabetes mellitus risk test. The results show that 20.6% (n=21) have a low risk of diabetes mellitus, 24.5% (n=25) have a slightly elevated risk, 31.4% (n=32) have a moderate risk, 14.7% (n=15) have a high risk, and 8.8% (n=9) have a very high risk. In conclusion, lifestyle changes are needed to adopt healthier habits that allow for the adaptation of healthier eating behaviours that promote good health.
