Evaluation of pedestrian and bicycle mobility on Mazatlan's Malecon: Successes and opportunities for sustainable urban mobility

Abstract: Traditional urban development has prioritized road infrastructure for automobiles, relegating pedestrian and bicycle mobility, which has negatively impacted the quality of life in cities (Gehl, 2010). Models such as Copenhagen's "Fingers Plan" (1947) have demonstrated the feasibility of integrating sustainable urban design by combining transportation networks and green spaces (López-Goyburu, 2017). In this context, the Mazatlán Malecón represents a key scenario for analyzing the progress and challenges in sustainable urban mobility. This study evaluates the current conditions of pedestrian and bicycle mobility on the Malecón, identifying strengths and areas for improvement to promote a more inclusive and efficient environment.
