International Journal of Neurology

International Journal of Neurology, 1961, vol. 2, issue 1

Abstract: The first issue of Volume 2 of the International Journal of Neurology (1961) was dedicated to parkinsonism. It included editorials in Spanish and English, followed by articles examining the epidemiologic and genetic characteristics of the disorder, the pathological lesions of the pallidum, and the role of the gamma system in motor control. Further contributions offered a critical review of the pathology of Parkinson’s syndrome and discussed the symptomatology and available medical treatments. The issue also presented pioneering French studies on the surgical treatment of Parkinson’s disease, highlighting early results of pallidotomy and thalamotomy procedures, and concluded with reflections on personality aspects related to the condition.
