Value of magnetic resonance imaging in the detection of cerebral microhaemorrhages

Abstract:
Cerebral microbleeds are small focal intracerebral hemorrhages that are visualized as hypointense images, presented in a rounded or semi-rounded form in the T2-weighted gradient echo image in a cerebral magnetic resonance representing findings in neuroimages. Such sequence is not included within the simple cerebral protocol, in routine studies. For this reason, the clinic impact when applying the GRE T2 sequence in a routine base within the 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance was analyzed. This propositive study was applied throughout a survey based on 14 radiology doctors and 4 neurologists in order to determine the efficiency and ratings of a weighted gradient echo image which coincide with the fact that the GRE T2 * sequence is highly efficient to detect silent cerebral microbleeds . It was also drawn on the analysis of different documents that ended in 25 samples. The prevalence, risk factors, pathophysiological mechanisms and possible cerebral microbleeds clinical implications are described in those documents, where 15 of them present lesions with a loss of signal in the T2* echo gradient image. The GRE T2* axial sequence demonstrated that it has a high level of sensitivity when detecting additional findings in relation to the common sequences used in the cerebral RM which, in some cases, presuppose a change in the radiological report. The reason for this is that it is capable of detecting old or recent cerebral bleedings.
