Abstract:
Introduction: Neurocognitive therapy proposes therapeutic exercises as cognitive tasks that involve planning and developing coordinated and fluid movement between different joints through body fragmentation, which is affected in people who have suffered a stroke and, as a result, suffer from hemiplegia. The aim is to promote enriching experiences and provide the necessary information to the central nervous system to improve these impaired functions, designed and implemented specifically according to the characteristics of each patient. Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of neurocognitive rehabilitation for gait re-education in a patient with hemiplegia following a stroke. Materials and methods: A plan of three neurocognitive exercises was carried out, which sought to extrapolate the cognitive processes learned through these exercises to the performance of the gait cycle. Results: The range of joint mobility and body organization in space improved after the neurocognitive exercise plan, which led to better execution of the gait pattern. Conclusion: With neurocognitive therapy, patients can regain movement, forge new brain connections, and optimize cognitive function, while maintaining joint and muscle elasticity in good condition until contraction is restored.
