Bibliometric analysis of neuroscience publications in the Electronic Medical Journal

Abstract:
Introduction: bibliometric analyses focus on the study of scientific output. Neurosciences encompass the set of sciences that study the nervous system. The objective was to characterize the scientific production on neurosciences in the Electronic Medic Journal of Matanzas. Methods: a bibliometric study was conducted on neuroscience production in the Electronic Medic Journal during the period between 1921 and 2021. A purposive non-random sampling of 189 articles was performed, a database was created in Microsoft Excel 2019, and these data were analyzed according to the selected variables. Results: in the printed version, the most productive year was 1925 (n=6). In the digital format, the most productive year was 2011 (n=20), followed by 2019. In the printed format, articles with a single author predominated (n=38, 57,6 %). In the digital stage 26 articles has 4 authors (n=20,8 %). In the printed version, 49 clusters and 99 authors were found; in the digital version, there were 10 clusters, 61 authors and 202 links, for a total attraction strength of 326. There are differences regarding collaboration trends and production between the two stages. Conclusions: the production was characterized by heterogeneity, there was an increase in production with the digitalization of the journal, followed by a downward trend. The main differences in the publication between its two stages lie in the tendency toward collaboration and the diversity of authors after the digitalization of the editorial.
