Abstract:
This study examined the influence of institutional-based practices related to the use of learning materials on student academic performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in public secondary schools in Makueni County, Kenya. Guided by Path-goal Theory, the research adopted a descriptive research design. The study targeted principals, teachers, and student leaders across public secondary schools in the county. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews, and analyzed using SPSS to generate descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The findings revealed a strong positive relationship (r = 0.62) between the availability of learning materials and student academic performance. The study recommends increased provision of instructional resources and government support to improve the quality of teaching and learning in public secondary schools.
