Abstract: Based on the human capital model of Lucas (1988) this empirical study comparing the evolution of three categories of countries at the global level – Developing Countries (8 countries), Emerging Countries (6 countries) and Developed countries (3 countries) -finds, step by step, some of the mayor questions to which theories of economic growth attempt to answer, namely mainly: What is the engine of economic growth, if there is convergence of world economies, the origin of strong growth in certain countries and the role of demographic reduction on growth.
