Abstract: Our study focuses on analyzing the impact of internal banking governance mechanisms on bank performance. Using a sample of seventy observations over a seven-year period covering Mauritanian banks, we seek to understand how variables such as meeting frequency, bank size, duality, ownership concentration, and debt ratio influence their financial performance. Our results, based on an econometric model, highlight the positive impact of some of these factors, including meeting frequency, bank size, and ownership concentration, on bank performance. However, we also observe negative effects, such as board size, bank age, and shareholder activism, on this performance.
