Abstract: From 2007 to 2018, around 65 cases of plague were reported annually in the ITASY region, 66 % of which were bubonic plague. Females are the most affected by this epidemic, accounting for 57% of cases. In terms of age, people under 16 are the most affected, accounting for 45 % of cases. With regard to the annual plague case-fatality rate, this region records an average of 18.08 %, with people aged between 36 and 40 having the highest rate, at 46 % on average. Descriptive comparisons were made between the region's three districts. Based on the results obtained, the average annual plague prevalence rate per 100,000 inhabitants is 16 for MIARINARIVO, 6 for ARIVONIMAMO and 3 for SOAVINANDRIANA. MIARINARIVO has an average of 280 Community Health Workers (CHWs) in 168 fokontany, 68 % of which are located more than 5 km from a health centre. Its primary school enrolment rate averages 24 %. ARIVONIMAMO, with an average school enrolment rate of 25 %, has 557 Community Agents out of 286 fokontany, 51 % of which are more than 5 km from a health centre. Finally, SOAVINANDRIANA, with an average school enrolment rate of 30 %, has an average of 268 CAs in 136 fokontany, 53 % of which are more than 5 km from a health centre. Thus, the number of functional Community Agents, the proximity of a health centre and the primary school enrolment rate have an impact on the plague epidemic.
