Industrie 4.0 in KMU - Welche Rolle spielt das Geschäftsmodell?

Abstract: Basierend auf der aktuellen Diskussion um die theoretische und praktische Bedeutung von Industrie 4.0 müssen auch die Geschäftsmodelle von KMU auf den Prüfstand gestellt werden. Anders als bisherige Beiträge, die eine eher technische und somit auf die Produktion gerichtete Perspektive einnehmen, widmet sich der vorliegende Beitrag auf Basis einer empirischen Untersuchung von 211 Unternehmen der Frage, ob und inwieweit die Geschäftsmodelle von KMU durch die Beschäftigung mit und Anwendung von Industrie-4.0-Applikationen verändert werden. Es zeigt sich, dass produzierende Unternehmen stark auf Prozessstandardisierungen im Kontext von Industrie 4.0 abstellen, während Dienstleistungsunternehmen als wichtigste Priorität die Digitalisierung der Schnittstellen zu ihren Kunden ansehen. / Based upon the recent discussion concerning the theoretical and practical implications of industry 4.0, the business models of SMEs should be taken under scrutiny. Differing from previous papers that focus on technical and production-oriented issues, this paper addresses the question whether SMEs’ business models change if these firms approach and apply industry 4.0. Additionally, empirical results of a 2016 study among 211 SMEs are depicted. Our paper shows that manufacturing companies focus on process standardization in the value chain, whereas service companies view the need to digitize the interfaces towards their respective customers.
