Harnessing Data Sources to Drive Market-Oriented Tourism Organizations: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: This paper introduces a conceptual framework that captures both current and future perspectives of data-driven tourism companies by analyzing the data sources utilized in tourism research literature and the associated research topics. To achieve this, a bibliometric analysis of data-driven tourism research was conducted. The study encompasses tourism-related publications that relied on data sources from 1982 to 2020. The findings reveal fundamental bibliometric performance indicators and science mapping, identifying key research themes and their conceptual evolution. Three major thematic areas emerge: tourism research topics, information sources, and data analysis techniques. From these areas, a conceptual model of data architecture and processes for data-driven organizations in the tourism sector is developed. Additionally, a qualitative analysis of these thematic areas is performed.
