 Quality of Life in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease: A Nursing ApproachCenturión and Foco Health Leadership and Quality of Life, 2022, vol. 1, 83 Abstract: Introduction: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) represented a global public health challenge due to its progressive impact on renal function and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients. Hemodialysis (HD), as a replacement treatment, demanded a high commitment of time and effort, significantly affecting the physical, psychological and social dimension of those who received it. Development: We analyzed how CKD, as it progressed to end-stage renal disease, generated profound alterations in patients' lifestyles. Treatment dependence, work restrictions and emotional problems, such as anxiety and depression, were recurrent findings. Furthermore, it was observed that HD, although essential, increased patients' stress and frailty due to its impact on physical and social domains. The reviewed studies highlighted the fundamental role of nursing professionals in Hemodialysis Units (HDU), who implemented comprehensive care strategies, encouraged self-care and offered emotional support. Conclusion: It was concluded that CKD and HD demanded an interdisciplinary approach focused on improving HRQOL. The role of nursing was essential to meet the physical, psychological and social needs of patients, contributing to personalized care and improving their overall well-being.
