Development and application of interactive games to stimulate cognitive skills in 5-year-old children

Abstract: This study addressed the issue of the lack of implementation of playful games in digital environments at the Luis Chiriboga Manrique Public School. The digital divide in Ecuador is directly affecting the cognitive development of 5-year-old children, as teachers continue to use the same resources from previous years without integrating technological processes in the classroom. The main objective was to design and apply a games manual, both virtual and physical, to strengthen cognitive skills in early childhood. A significant sample of teachers was involved, and they were given a survey based on a Likert scale, collecting qualitative and quantitative data on the perception and effectiveness of the proposed activities. The main results showed a high acceptance of the manual by the teachers, who highlighted its positive impact on improving children's attention and logical reasoning skills. However, further training is needed to optimize the implementation of the games, as well as more cooperation from families in the home-based playful process. In conclusion, the games manual proved to be an effective tool for stimulating cognitive development, with potential for optimization through pedagogical and family support.
